Microbial whole-genome sequencing (WGS) involves sequencing the entire genome of a bacteria of a known reference (re-sequencing) or an unknown (de novo sequencing). Accurate microbial WGS information is critical for detecting low frequency mutations, finding key deletions and insertions, and discovering other genetic changes among microbial strains.
