the gem

This month, two very different events brought together scientists, innovators, and health leaders with a shared purpose: turning knowledge and innovation into real-world impact. At VEME 2026, scientists explored how genomics, combined with other disciplines and AI, can detect emerging threats earlier. At Cape HealthTech Connect, researchers, clinicians, entrepreneurs, and investors explored how promising ideas can become technologies that reach those who need them. Africa is not short of ideas or expertise. Our challenge is to connect these strengths across disciplines, sectors, and countries to improve health. We should not only contribute to the future of global health. We should be building that future here.
